Peter, along with his wife Jane and daughter Julia, own and operate Clinton Falls Framing, Art & Gift Gallery "on the river." Together, they specialize in custom framing, art restoration and cleaning as well as the sale of originals, limited and open editions, jewelry and gifts. Peter explains that anyone who puts together a successful business is an artist. So his first "art" was putting businesses together and selling them. Peter had third business planned by age 17 and, at 23, upon graduating from college, borrowed a lot of money and executed his "brown bag" plan: Valley Brook/Sun Mountain was a children's camp, swim and tennis club and small private school near Chester, Long Valley and Oldwick...in an area called Fairmount. Valley Brook operated for 30 years and now continues under another name. After the first 10 years, he started spinning off other profit-making businesses -- another children's camp, a school and income producing properties, including a restaurant. Then, around 1990, he stopped this "insane, but fun and profitable, adventure" and wasn't sure what he was going to do. Mentally, he was not ready to retire and, having four children, he thought he would be a poor role model to be just "hanging around." He believes it was divine intervention put him into the art business. Just take a walk through their shop and you'll see what they currently do. The investment business continues with first mortgages, retail, office and residential rentals. Pete's and Jane's four children are now grown and his current "art" venture is well taken care of, so he can feel better about just "hanging around" sometimes.
